SC Freiburg Delivers Goal Fest Against Depleted Mainz 05
Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany – SC Freiburg delivered a commanding display of attacking football, dominating FSV Mainz 05 with a final score of 4 to 0. Despite an early goal disallowed for offside in the 6th minute, the home side quickly recovered, opening the scoring in the 12th minute with a goal from L. Kubler. V. Grifo extended the lead in the 26th minute. The situation worsened for Mainz 05 when P. Nebel received a red card in the 28th minute, leaving his team with ten men.
In the second half, Freiburg continued their assault, with J. Manzambi scoring in the 50th minute. Although another goal by Manzambi was disallowed for offside in the 78th minute, Freiburg sealed the victory in added time with a goal from P. Osterhage in the 90th minute.
Freiburg’s dominance was absolute, reflected in a 75% possession rate and 23 shots on goal, compared to Mainz 05’s single shot. Mainz 05 also accumulated a higher number of fouls, 12 against Freiburg’s 9, and two additional yellow cards on top of Nebel’s red.
