SC Freiburg suffered a 2-3 defeat against Bayer Leverkusen in a thrilling match at the Europa-Park Stadion in Freiburg im Breisgau on May 4th, 2025, corresponding to matchday 32 of the Bundesliga. Despite a superior shot accuracy (3 out of 7 on target compared to Leverkusen’s 2 out of 5), Freiburg was outmatched in possession (32% versus Leverkusen’s 68%).
The match started with Leverkusen dominating possession, and Freiburg received an early yellow card for J. Manzambi in the 27th minute. However, Freiburg took the lead with a goal from M. Eggestein in the 44th minute. The advantage grew to two goals early in the second half thanks to an own goal by P. Hincapie (49th minute), assisted by Manzambi. Leverkusen responded strongly, scoring three goals in the second half. Wirtz (82nd minute) and Tah (90th minute) sealed the comeback, with Grimaldo and Tella providing key assists. Adli and Grimaldo also received yellow cards for Leverkusen. Despite Freiburg’s efforts, Leverkusen secured the victory thanks to their greater control of the game and efficiency in clear chances.
