Romania thrashes San Marino in World Cup qualifier
Serravalle, March 24, 2025 – Romania secured a resounding 6-1 victory over San Marino at the Stadio Olimpico di Serravalle in a World Cup 2024 European qualifying group stage match. The game showcased a significant disparity between the two teams.
Romania dominated possession (75%) and created numerous scoring opportunities, registering 18 shots, 8 of which were on target. Goals came early, with an own goal by M. Cevoli in the 6th minute and a goal by M. Popescu in the 44th. In the second half, R. Marin scored a penalty in the 55th minute and I. Hagi added another penalty in the 75th. San Marino managed to pull one back through S. Zannoni in the 67th minute, but D. Alibec sealed the victory with a goal in the 90th minute.
San Marino, on the other hand, only managed one shot on target and had 25% possession. The team received three yellow cards and committed 11 fouls. Romania’s superiority was evident throughout the match. The victory puts Romania in a strong position in their qualifying group.
