FC Sochi defeats Rotor Volgograd in a low-scoring affair
Volgograd, Russia – FC Sochi took a 1-0 victory over Rotor Volgograd in a low-scoring affair on Matchday 18 of the Russian First League. The only goal of the match came in the 35th minute from Kirill Nikitin.
The match started at a slow pace, with both teams struggling to create clear scoring opportunities. The first yellow card of the match went to FC Sochi in the 7th minute, for a foul by Pavel Maslov. Rotor Volgograd followed suit and received their first yellow card in the 21st minute, from Anton Semenov.
FC Sochi had the first clear chance in the 35th minute when Nikitin capitalized on a defensive error by Rotor Volgograd to score the only goal of the match. The rest of the first half was uneventful.
In the second half, both teams made several changes, seeking to inject new life into their attacks. Rotor Volgograd received a new yellow card in the 78th minute, this time from Timur Kasimov. Kasimov had the opportunity to equalize in the 78th minute but his shot was saved by the FC Sochi goalkeeper.
Despite Rotor Volgograd’s relentless pursuit of an equalizer in the final minutes, FC Sochi managed to hold on to their lead and secure the three points.
