Dramatic Comeback for Rotherham at AESSEAL New York Stadium
Rotherham, South Yorkshire – Rotherham United staged a dramatic comeback at home against Oldham Athletic in a match corresponding to the EFL Trophy. The match, played at the AESSEAL New York Stadium, ended with a score of Rotherham 4, Oldham 2, although the start clearly favored the visiting team.
Oldham surprised the home side with an early goal from L. Hannant in the first minute, assisted by K. Payne, setting a frenetic pace from the start. Oldham’s lead was extended in the 36th minute thanks to a goal from R. Ogle.
However, the second half saw a transformed Rotherham. K. Spence pulled one back in the 52nd minute, giving hope to the home side. An own goal by J. Leake in the 87th minute leveled the score, and finally, R. James sealed the victory for Rotherham in the 90th minute.
Rotherham dominated possession with 55% compared to Oldham’s 45%. Despite having fewer total shots (16 against 10), Rotherham showed greater precision in front of the opponent’s goal. The match was characterized by physical play, reflected in the 11 fouls committed by Rotherham and the 14 by Oldham. Regarding cards, Oldham received one yellow card, while Rotherham was cautioned on two occasions.
