Real Sociedad defeated FC Midtjylland in a thrilling match at the Reale Arena in Donostia-San Sebastián, a UEFA Europa League 2024 Knockout Round Play-offs fixture. The match ended in a resounding 6-2 victory for the home side.
Real Sociedad dominated possession (52%) and created numerous goal-scoring opportunities, registering 21 shots with 10 on target. B. Méndez opened the scoring in the 5th minute, followed by a brace from L. Sucic (18th and 45th minutes). Despite goals from A. Buksa (penalty, 24th minute) and D. Osorio (38th minute) for the Danish team, Real Sociedad maintained control and sealed the victory with a penalty converted by M. Oyarzabal (73rd minute) and a late goal by O. Oskarsson (90th minute). FC Midtjylland’s Dani Silva was sent off in the 70th minute.
The match was intense, with Real Sociedad committing 17 fouls and FC Midtjylland 10. Both teams received one yellow card, however, FC Midtjylland also had one red card. Despite FC Midtjylland’s strong moments and shots on goal, Real Sociedad’s clinical finishing proved decisive.
