Racing Club Secures Victory in Emotionally Charged Match Against Peñarol
Avellaneda, Province of Buenos Aires – In a vibrant and controversial match held at the Estadio Presidente Juan Domingo Perón, Racing Club managed to overcome Peñarol in a game corresponding to the Round of 16 of the CONMEBOL Libertadores 2025. The match, refereed by Colombian Wilmar Roldán, was marked by goals, cards, and a high level of tension.
Racing Club demonstrated their dominance with 68% ball possession and a constant offensive, materialized in 26 shots, 7 of which were on target. Adrián Martínez emerged as the key player of the match, scoring two goals, the first at 7 minutes thanks to an assist from S. Solari. However, Peñarol responded quickly, tying the score at 15 minutes with a goal from N. Herrera, assisted by E. Remedi.
Controversy was not long in coming. At minute 33, a goal by M. Rojo for Racing Club was disallowed after VAR review due to a previous foul. The match continued with a frenetic pace, interspersed with yellow cards for both teams, showing the intensity of the game.

Zuculini received red cards, leaving Racing Club with nine players. Despite the numerical disadvantage, F. Pardo sealed the victory for the home team in stoppage time, after an assist from G. N. Martirena Torres.
Despite the lower possession (32%) and 16 shots (6 on target), Peñarol fought intensely, but it was not enough to counter Racing Club’s offensive power. The match concluded with a total of 14 fouls for Racing Club and 13 for Peñarol, evidencing the harshness of the meeting.
