Qatar Thrashes North Korea in Dominant Display
Doha, March 20, 2025 – Qatar cruised to a resounding 6-1 victory over North Korea in a World Cup 2026 Asian qualifier at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha. The match, officiated by Mohanad Qasim Eesee Sarray of Iraq, saw Qatar dominate possession and create numerous scoring opportunities.
Qatar opened the scoring early, with Akram Afif netting in the 17th minute, assisted by Mohammed Meshaal. Almoez Ali added a second goal in the 23rd minute, with Afif providing the assist again. A Kim Yu-song own goal in the 34th minute put Qatar 3-0 up at halftime.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Qatar extending their lead. Al Rawi scored in the 56th minute, again assisted by Afif, who had a phenomenal game. Alaa added a fifth goal in the 66th minute, yet again assisted by Afif. North Korea pulled one back in the 87th minute through Pak Kwang-Hun, but it was too little, too late.
Despite the scoreline, North Korea showed fighting spirit, committing 18 fouls and receiving three yellow cards. Qatar committed 9 fouls and received one yellow card. Possession was 54% for Qatar and 46% for North Korea. Qatar had 12 shots with 9 on target, while North Korea managed 12 shots with 6 on target.
