Norwich Edges Out Portsmouth in Thrilling Encounter
Portsmouth, England – In a vibrant match held at Fratton Park, Norwich City managed to overcome Portsmouth with a score of 2 to 1. The match, valid for the second round of the Championship regular season, was marked by intensity and cards.
Norwich started strongly, with H. Darling opening the scoring in the 6th minute thanks to an assist from M. Nunez. Shortly after, in the 14th minute, J. Sargent extended the lead with a goal assisted by J. Cordoba, leaving Portsmouth in a difficult position from the start.
The first half also saw M. Topic and J. Cordoba of Norwich receive yellow cards.
In the second half, Portsmouth tried to react. C. Bishop missed a penalty in the 80th minute, but managed to score from the play after. A. Segecic narrowed the gap in the 84th minute with an assist from F. Bianchini, injecting hope into the home fans.
However, the reaction was not enough. The match ended with Portsmouth dominating possession with 58% compared to Norwich’s 42%. Portsmouth attempted to create danger with 16 shots (3 on target), but the Norwich defense remained firm. The referee, Stephen Martin, booked R. Poole and C. Ogilvie of Portsmouth, while H. Darling received a second yellow and J. Swift one in extra time. Norwich committed a total of 13 fouls, while Portsmouth committed 7.
