Kawasaki Frontale Crushes Pohang Steelers in AFC Champions League
Kawasaki Frontale delivered a resounding 4-0 victory over Pohang Steelers in an AFC Champions League group stage match played at the Steelyard in Pohang. The match, officiated by Muhammad Nazmi Bin Nasaruddin from Malaysia, was dominated by the Japanese side’s clinical finishing, despite a relatively even possession share.
The game started with tension, as Pohang Steelers received two yellow cards in the first 26 minutes (Oberdan and Aspropotamitis). Kawasaki responded with a yellow card for Tachibanada at 31′. However, it was the Japanese team who broke the deadlock in the 38th minute with a goal from Shogo Yamada, assisted by Tatsuya Ito. In the second half, Kawasaki Frontale continued their dominance. Wakizaka extended their lead in the 71st minute, assisted by Yamada. Kawahara scored the third in the 75th minute thanks to an assist from Yamamoto. Finally, Erison sealed the victory with a 4-0 goal in the 89th minute, after a pass from Maruyama.
Despite having more possession (52%), Pohang Steelers only managed one shot on target. Kawasaki, on the other hand, had 10 shots, 6 of them on target. The match ended with a 4-0 scoreline in favor of Kawasaki Frontale, who demonstrated a clear superiority in finishing. Pohang Steelers accumulated 10 fouls and four yellow cards, plus a red card; while Kawasaki committed 11 fouls and received only one yellow card.
