Peñarol Edges Out Racing Club in Tense Montevideo Clash
Montevideo, Uruguay – In a hard-fought match at the Estadio Campeón del Siglo, Peñarol secured a narrow victory over Racing Club in the CONMEBOL Libertadores 2025 Round of 16. The match, refereed by Brazilian Raphael Claus, was characterized by a physical and tactical battle, reflected in the number of yellow cards shown.
Racing Club dominated possession with 54%, but failed to convert that dominance into clear goal-scoring opportunities. Of their nine shots, none found the target. Peñarol, on the other hand, was more effective, capitalizing on one of the three clear chances they created. The winning goal came in the 78th minute, scored by David Terans with an assist from M. Arezo.
