Universidad de Chile defeats Palestino in a thrilling encounter
Santiago, Chile, April 27, 2025.- Universidad de Chile defeated Palestino 3-2 in a vibrant match played at the Estadio Municipal de La Cisterna, corresponding to the ninth round of the Chilean Primera División. The match was marked by its intensity, with a total of seven yellow cards distributed between both teams.
La U opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a penalty goal from Cristián Aránguiz. Despite Palestino’s possession dominance (57%), Universidad de Chile was able to capitalize on their opportunities. The second goal arrived in the 65th minute thanks to a goal from Luis Fernández, assisted by Renato Contreras. Contreras would seal the victory with a goal in the final minutes. Palestino scored with a goal from Tapia Paez in the 69th minute and then a penalty in the 90th’.
While Palestino generated more shots (14 to 16 from La U), Universidad de Chile’s effectiveness was key. Both teams had similar numbers in shots on target (5 for Palestino and 6 for La U), reflecting the parity at certain points in the game. The match ended with a 3-2 score in favor of the blues, who added three crucial points in their fight for classification.
