Draw in Santiago: Palestino and Everton de Viña Share the Points
Santiago de Chile witnessed a vibrant match between Palestino and Everton de Viña del Mar at the Estadio Municipal de La Cisterna. The match, corresponding to matchday 25 of the Chilean Primera División, ended in a draw reflecting the intensity and back-and-forth nature of the game.
The first half passed without goals, but with several cautions. Roberto Pineiro from Everton and Bryan Carrasco together with Jonathan Abrigo from Palestino received yellow cards before the break.
The second half brought the excitement. Sebastián Sosa opened the scoring for Everton in the 53rd minute, converting a penalty. However, Palestino reacted strongly. First, Julián León equalized the match in the 61st minute with a goal after an assist from Jonathan Fernández. Subsequently, in the 72nd minute, Joe Abrigo assisted Jonathan Arias, who put Palestino ahead.
The rest of the match was characterized by a disputed game with several yellow cards, including Diego Oyarzun and Joan Alfaro from Everton, as well as Ignacio Garguez and Cristian Suárez from Palestino. While Everton had less ball possession (36% against Palestino’s 64%) and made fewer total shots (7 against Palestino’s 13), they knew how to take advantage of their opportunities. Palestino dominated possession and created more goal chances (13 total shots), but failed to secure the victory.
The match, refereed by Cristián Galaz Sepúlveda, left a bittersweet taste for both teams, who added one point in their fight to achieve their goals in the Primera División.
