Palermo Thrashes Sassuolo in Thrilling Serie B Encounter
The Stadio Renzo Barbera in Palermo hosted a thrilling match between Palermo and Sassuolo, corresponding to matchday 32 of the 2024 Serie B season. The match, played on April 6th, 2025, ended in a convincing 5-3 victory for the home side.
The game started at a fast pace. In the 18th minute, Pohjanpalo opened the scoring for Palermo, assisted by Blin. An own goal by Toljan five minutes later extended Palermo’s lead. Before half-time, Pohjanpalo scored his second goal, making it 3-0 for the home team. After the break, Segre increased Palermo’s advantage with a goal in the 55th minute, assisted by Pohjanpalo.
Sassuolo responded with two quick goals, scored by Pierini (73′) and Moro (74′), narrowing the gap. However, Pohjanpalo completed his hat-trick in the 81st minute, thanks to an assist from Ranocchia. Obiang scored Sassuolo’s fourth goal in the 84th minute, but it was too little, too late.
Although Sassuolo had more shots (21 to 13), Palermo showed greater effectiveness. Both teams had 50% possession, but the difference in shots on target was decisive (5 to 7). The match was marked by several yellow cards: Lauriente and Toljan for Sassuolo, and Magnani and Segre for Palermo. The referee was Fabio Maresca. A resounding victory for Palermo that consolidates their position in the table.
