Athletic Club Stuns Operario-PR with Decisive Victory in Ponta Grossa
Ponta Grossa, Brazil – In a match held at the Estádio Germano Krüger, Athletic Club surprised everyone by defeating Operario-PR with a convincing score. Despite Operario-PR’s dominance in ball possession, with 69%, Athletic Club demonstrated ruthless effectiveness in front of goal.
The score was opened early, in the 15th minute, with an own goal by Miranda in favor of Athletic Club. Just one minute later, R. Tavares extended the lead for the visitors with an assist from Welinton Torrao. Operario-PR reacted in the 27th minute with a goal by Boschilia, after an assist from Vitor Pernambuco, but the joy was short-lived.
Before halftime, R. Tavares scored again in the 44th minute, once again assisted by Welinton Torrao, and A. Da Cruz sealed a spectacular first half for Athletic Club with a goal in the 45th minute, thanks to a pass from Douglas Pele.
The second half passed without further goals, although Operario-PR persistently sought to reduce the deficit with 28 total shots, of which only 6 were on target. Athletic Club, with a more direct game, made the most of their opportunities, converting 5 of their 7 shots on goal. The match was also marked by some yellow cards, one for each team.
