Napoli beat Genoa 3-2 in a thrilling match at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in Naples. The game, corresponding to matchday 36 of the 2024 Serie A, saw the home side dominate possession (59%) and create numerous scoring chances (20 shots, 11 on target). Romelu Lukaku opened the scoring in the 15th minute, assisted by Scott McTominay. However, Genoa quickly equalized with an own goal by Alex Meret in the 32nd minute. Just before halftime, Giovanni Vasquez received a yellow card. The second half started with two yellow cards for Genoa (Vitinha and Vasquez). Giacomo Raspadori extended Napoli’s lead in the 64th minute, again assisted by McTominay. Despite Genoa making five substitutions in the closing stages, Vasquez managed to pull one back in the 84th minute, assisted by Andrea Martin. The final minutes were intense, with Peter Billing of Napoli receiving a yellow card in stoppage time. Despite Genoa’s efforts, Napoli secured the victory, showcasing superior offensive play overall.
