Hard-Fought Draw Between Morocco and Mali in Rabat
Rabat, December 26, 2025 – Morocco and Mali played to a 1-1 draw in a tense and contested match at the Complexe Sportif Moulay Abdellah, as part of the group stage of the Africa Cup of Nations. The match, refereed by Abdou Abdel Mefire, was marked by intensity and numerous fouls.
Morocco dominated possession with 61% compared to Mali’s 39%, and created more goal-scoring opportunities, accumulating 15 shots, 4 of which were on target. However, Mali’s strong defense and lack of precision in the shots prevented a greater difference on the scoreboard.
The first goal of the match came just before halftime when Brahim Diaz converted a penalty for Morocco. Mali, for their part, reacted in the second half, also from the penalty spot, with a goal by L. Sinayoko, leveling the score.
The match was filled with cards, with seven yellow cards for Mali and one for Morocco, reflecting the toughness in the battle for the ball. Morocco’s territorial dominance did not translate into superiority on the scoreboard, and Mali, with less possession but great defensive solidity, achieved a valuable point in their visit to Rabat.
