Monterrey defeats Chivas in thrilling match at Estadio BBVA

Guadalupe, Mexico – Monterrey defeated Chivas de Guadalajara 3-1 in a vibrant match corresponding to matchday 14 of the Liga MX Clausura 2024. The match, played at Estadio BBVA before a passionate crowd, was marked by spectacular goals, cards, and a sending-off.

Monterrey took the lead early thanks to goals from Rogelio Funes Mori (9′) and Germán Berterame (28′). Chivas pulled one back in the 51st minute with a goal from Roberto Alvarado, but Monterrey’s superiority became evident in the second half. A goal from Nicolás De la Cruz (85′) sealed the victory for Rayados.

Although Chivas had more possession (51% to 49%), Monterrey was more effective in attack, with 14 shots on goal (8 on target) compared to Chivas’s 9 (4 on target). The sending-off of Luis Romo in the 80th minute for a straight red card was a turning point in the match, favoring Monterrey. Both teams received yellow cards; Chivas received four and Monterrey one.
