Estonia Edges Out a Reduced Moldova in Thrilling Encounter
Chişinău, March 25, 2025.- Estonia secured a 3-2 victory over Moldova in a World Cup qualifier at the Stadionul Zimbru in Chişinău. The match was characterized by the expulsion of two players from each team and an exciting development until the final whistle.
Estonia took an early lead thanks to goals from R. Peetson (19th minute) and R. Sappinen (30th minute). However, Moldova, despite playing with one man down from the 5th minute following the expulsion of M. Cojocaru, fought bravely and managed to reduce the deficit with a goal from I. Nicolaescu in the 67th minute. Estonia responded with a goal from M. Kait in the 70th minute. Moldova scored again in the final minutes thanks to I. Nicolaescu (67′) and M. Caimacov (90′) but ultimately could not turn the match around.
The match was a back-and-forth spectacle, with both teams showing remarkable effectiveness in front of goal. Estonia had a slight possession advantage (51%), while Moldova launched more shots (14 to 10). The red cards conditioned the game’s development, with both teams finishing the match with ten players.
