Maccabi Haifa and Beitar Jerusalem played out a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Sammy Ofer Stadium in Haifa, in the opening round of the 2024 Ligat Ha’al Championship Round. The match, played on March 16th, 2025, saw Beitar Jerusalem dominate possession (56%), but Maccabi Haifa prove more clinical in front of goal.
D. Saba gave Maccabi Haifa an early lead in the 9th minute, but received a yellow card just a minute later. The match was a tense affair, with numerous yellow cards shown – four to Maccabi Haifa (Saba, Goldberg, Seck and Haziza) and two to Beitar Jerusalem (Zasno and Morozov). Silva Kani equalized for Beitar Jerusalem in the 39th minute. The end of the first half was dramatic: O. Atzili put Beitar Jerusalem ahead with a 45th-minute penalty, but L. Refaelov immediately responded with a penalty of his own for Maccabi Haifa, leaving the score at 2-2 at halftime.
X. Severina put Maccabi Haifa ahead in the 79th minute, but L. O. Mizrahi scored in the 90th minute to secure a 3-3 draw for Beitar Jerusalem. Maccabi Haifa had 13 shots (7 on target), while Beitar Jerusalem managed 20 (4 on target). Beitar Jerusalem also enjoyed a corner-kick advantage (4-1). A vibrant and exciting match that ended in a well-deserved draw for both teams.
