AZ Alkmaar and Ludogorets played a thrilling match in the sixth matchday of the UEFA Europa League group stage, held at the Huvepharma Arena in Razgrad on December 12th, 2024. The match, refereed by Kristo Tohver from Estonia, ended with a 2-3 victory for Ludogorets.
AZ Alkmaar started strongly, scoring two quick goals. R. van Bommel opened the scoring in the 14th minute, followed by S. Maikuma in the 19th minute. However, the Dutch team received three yellow cards in the first hour of play, which seemed to affect their rhythm. Ludogorets reacted in the second half, with goals from I. Chochev (61st minute) and K. Duah (63rd minute), both assisted by Erick Marcus, to turn the game around. The Bulgarian team also received two yellow cards in the final stages of the match. Despite AZ Alkmaar having more shots on target (7 compared to Ludogorets’ 3), Ludogorets’ effectiveness in the second half proved decisive for the victory. Both teams had 50% possession of the ball.
