Lorient Crushes Heavily Depleted Rennes at Stade du Moustoir
Lorient handed Rennes a crushing defeat in a match marred by the early dismissal of two Rennes players. The encounter, played at the Stade du Moustoir, saw Lorient dominate the game thanks to a numerical advantage that became evident from the very beginning.
Rennes suffered a devastating blow early on, with two red cards shown to M. Camara in the 6th minute and C. Wooh in the 11th minute. Despite the disadvantage, Rennes tried to resist, but the pressure from Lorient was relentless.
S. Soumano opened the scoring just before halftime, assisted by A. Avom. Almost immediately after the start of the second half, A. Tosin extended the lead with a goal assisted by A. Kouassi. P. Pagis added a third goal, assisted by M. Bamba, and T. Le Bris sealed the victory for Lorient with a fourth goal.
Lorient controlled possession with 51%, generating 22 shots, of which 7 were on target. Rennes, with 49% possession, barely troubled the opponent’s goal with 4 shots, only one of which was directed at the net. Referee Jérôme Brisard showed numerous yellow cards, 6 to Lorient and none to Rennes.
