Finland Edges Out Lithuania in Thrilling World Cup Qualifier
Kaunas, Lithuania – Finland secured a 2-3 victory over Lithuania in a captivating match at the S. Dariaus ir S. Girėno stadionas. The game, part of the European World Cup 2024 qualifying group stage, was a rollercoaster ride until the final whistle.
Kairinen put Finland ahead in the 4th minute with a goal. Pohjanpalo doubled Finland’s lead in the 17th minute with a penalty. Lithuania responded with a goal from Kucys in the 39th minute, narrowing the gap before halftime. After the break, Gineitis scored for Lithuania in the 69th minute, tying the game. However, Finland managed to score again, securing the win.
The match was intense, with numerous fouls committed by both sides (15 for Finland and 16 for Lithuania). Lithuania had 10 shots on goal (6 on target), while Finland registered 13 (4 on target).
