Late Drama in Loja: Emelec and Libertad Share Points
Loja, Ecuador – In a hard-fought match at the Estadio Federativo Reina del Cisne, Emelec and Libertad FC drew in a game full of emotions and controversies. The match, corresponding to Round 23 of the 2025 Liga Pro, ended with a score of 2 to 1.
Emelec took an early lead in the 8th minute thanks to a goal by F. Castelli, assisted by R. Caicedo. This initial goal seemed to give them control of the game, although Libertad maintained possession of the ball for most of the match, reaching 63%.
Despite dominating possession, Libertad struggled to convert their chances. The visitors recorded 13 shots, only 5 of which were on target. Emelec, with 37% possession, generated 12 shots, but only 3 directed at the goal.
The second half of the match brought moments of tension. Libertad managed to equalize in the 76th minute, thanks to a penalty converted by E. Caicedo. The pressure continued and the game became physical, with several yellow cards shown to players from both teams.
In stoppage time, Emelec secured the winning goal through another penalty, this time converted by F. Leon, sealing the final score. Guillermo Enrique Guerrero Alcivar’s officiating was key to the development of the match, awarding the two penalties that defined the result. Despite having less possession, Emelec capitalized on their opportunities to take all three points at home.
