León Overwhelms Depleted Querétaro at Estadio León
León, Guanajuato – Club León convincingly defeated a Club Querétaro side weakened by expulsions, in a match held at Estadio León. Ball possession heavily favored the home team, with 69% compared to the 31% of Gallos Blancos.
The first goal of the match arrived just before halftime, at the 45th minute, courtesy of F. Beltran Cruz, assisted by S. Reyes, giving León the lead heading into the break. Querétaro’s situation worsened with the expulsion of A. Zapata in the same 45th minute, leaving them with ten men.
In the second half, I. Diaz extended the lead for the home side at the 55th minute, unassisted. A disallowed goal by P. Barrera for Querétaro in the 56th minute, reviewed by VAR, extinguished any hopes of a comeback. I. Diaz scored again in the 74th minute, also unassisted, sealing the victory.
Discipline was a problem for both teams. Querétaro accumulated three yellow cards and two red cards (A. Zapata and J. Hernandez), the latter at the 83rd minute, leaving them with nine men on the field. León, on the other hand, received three cautions. The match ended with absolute dominance by León, who capitalized on their numerical advantage and ball control.
The match was officiated by referee Yonatan Peinado Aguirre, corresponding to matchday 7 of the Apertura 2025 of Liga MX.
