LD Alajuelense and U.N.A.M. Pumas played a thrilling match at the Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela, Costa Rica, on March 14th, 2025, as part of the Round of 16 of the CONCACAF Champions League. The match, refereed by Lukasz Szpala from the USA, ended in a 1-1 draw.
Alajuelense started stronger, controlling possession (62%) and creating more scoring opportunities (10 shots, 4 on target). D. Campos opened the scoring in the 39th minute with a goal that went unanswered for a significant portion of the game. However, in the second half, Pumas reacted with more intensity, making better use of their chances. Suarez equalized in the 73rd minute, assisted by Ergas.
Pumas committed more fouls (20) than Alajuelense (12), reflecting a hard-fought match. Both teams received one yellow card each. Despite Alajuelense’s greater possession and number of shots, the final result reflected the parity between both teams and the intensity of the competition. The difference in possession did not translate into a significant difference in the scoreline.
