Kawasaki Frontale Edges Out Al Sadd in Thrilling AFC Champions League Encounter
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia – Kawasaki Frontale of Japan defeated Al Sadd of Qatar 4-3 in a pulsating AFC Champions League quarter-final clash at the Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Sports City Stadium. Despite Al Sadd dominating possession (67%), Kawasaki Frontale proved more clinical in front of goal.
Erison put the Japanese side ahead in the 4th minute, assisted by Ienaga. Paulo Otavio equalized for Al Sadd in the 9th minute, with Afif providing the assist. Marcinho restored Kawasaki Frontale’s lead in the 21st minute, thanks to an assist from Yamamoto. Claudinho scored for Al Sadd in the 71st minute, assisted by Giovani, temporarily leveling the score. However, Kawasaki Frontale netted two goals in added time. Wakizaka, assisted by Yamada, scored in the 98th minute to put his team ahead, securing a 4-3 victory.
Al Sadd, despite having 16 shots (5 on target), couldn’t match Kawasaki Frontale’s efficiency, who, with 12 shots (6 on target), managed to score four goals. The match was officiated by Ning Ma from China.
