Fagiano Okayama Stuns Kashima Antlers with Comeback Victory
Kashima, Japan – In a match held at the Kashima Soccer Stadium, Fagiano Okayama surprised Kashima Antlers with a 2-1 victory in matchday 22 of the J1 League. Despite Kashima’s overwhelming ball possession (70%), the home team failed to translate their dominance into goals.
Y. Suzuki put Kashima ahead in the 18th minute, assisted by R. Koike, suggesting the game would follow the expected script. However, Fagiano Okayama proved to be a resilient opponent.
In the second half, A. Esaka equalized in the 50th minute, assisted by Lucao, injecting energy into the visiting team. Shortly after, Kamiya Yuta, assisted by A. Esaka, completed the comeback in the 59th minute, capitalizing on one of Fagiano Okayama’s few ventures into the opponent’s penalty area.
Despite having 18 shots, 4 of which were on target, and generating 12 corners, Kashima couldn’t find the net again. Fagiano Okayama, with 30% possession and 10 shots (3 on target), proved effective in their attacks. The match also saw a yellow card for T. Yanagi of Fagiano Okayama in the 53rd minute and another for G. Shibasaki of Kashima in the 82nd minute.
