Flamengo Overcomes Internacional in Porto Alegre with Solid Offensive Display
Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul – Flamengo showcased their offensive power by defeating Internacional at the Estádio José Pinheiro Borda, in a match corresponding to the Round of 16 of the CONMEBOL Libertadores. The encounter, played on August 21, 2025, saw a Flamengo side dominant in ball possession (55%) and more incisive in attack.
The first goal of the match came in the 27th minute, scored by G. de Arrascaeta, following an excellent assist from G. Plata. Internacional, with 45% possession, tried to respond, but their lack of effectiveness in front of goal, with only one shot on target out of eight attempts, prevented them from leveling the score. The game became physical, with two yellow cards for Internacional in the 32nd minute and one for Flamengo just before halftime.
In the second half, Flamengo continued to press and, finally, Pedro sealed the match in the 88th minute with a goal assisted by Leo Pereira. Despite Internacional’s attempts to create danger, Flamengo’s defense remained solid. The Rio de Janeiro team tallied 14 shots, 5 of which were on target, while the home team only managed to put one of their eight shots on target. The Uruguayan referee, Esteban Ostojich, officiated the match, which ended with a clear victory for Flamengo.
