Varazdin Stuns Rijeka with Remarkable Comeback Victory
Rijeka, Croatia – In a match filled with emotions and cards, NK Varazdin surprised HNK Rijeka at their own stadium, Stadion HNK Rijeka, with a 2-1 victory. The match, corresponding to matchday 4 of the HNL, left a bitter taste in the mouths of local fans.
Rijeka started strong, opening the score in the 5th minute thanks to a goal by T. Fruk, assisted by T. Dantas. It seemed that control of the match was leaning in favor of the locals, who dominated possession with 55%. However, Varazdin did not back down, and in the 25th minute, I. Mamut converted a penalty to equalize the score.
The second half was even more disputed, with both teams fighting for possession and creating scoring opportunities. Varazdin demonstrated greater effectiveness in front of the rival goal, and in the 70th minute, A. Latkovic, assisted by I. Mamut, scored the goal that would seal the victory for the visiting team.
Despite having greater control of the ball and generating 10 shots, Rijeka only managed to send 2 on target, showing a lack of aim that cost them dearly. Varazdin, for their part, was more effective, taking advantage of their 15 shots to score two goals. The match was marked by intensity and tough play, reflected in the eight yellow cards shown (four for each team) and the 31 fouls committed in total. Ultimately, Varazdin took three valuable points from Rijeka.
