Hajduk Split Edges Out Rijeka in Thrilling Poljud Encounter
HNK Hajduk Split secured a 2-3 victory over HNK Rijeka in a captivating match played on December 15th at the Stadion Poljud in Split. The game, part of the 17th round of the Croatian HNL league, was a back-and-forth affair.
Under the watchful eye of referee Mateo Erceg, Hajduk took the lead through Antonio Kalik’s goal in the 7th minute, assisted by Marko Livaja. Rijeka swiftly equalized with Nikola Jankovic finding the net in the 12th minute, assisted by Toni Fruk. Kalik scored again for Hajduk in the 36th minute, this time unassisted. Rijeka leveled the score once more in the 46th minute with a goal from Luka Selahi, assisted by Ivan Smolcic. Ultimately, Rijeka secured the victory with a goal in the 46th minute.
The match saw a flurry of yellow cards: five for Rijeka (Devetak, Majstorovic, Selahi, Petrovic, Galesic) and two for Hajduk (Kalik, Rakitic). Hajduk dominated possession (62%) and had more shots (12 to 10), but Rijeka proved more clinical in front of goal (4 shots on target compared to 3).
Despite Hajduk’s superior possession and shot count, Rijeka’s efficiency in attack proved decisive. The away win underscores the competitiveness of the HNL.
