Manchester City Women Fight Back to Beat Hammarby in Champions League Thriller
Manchester City Women secured a 2-1 victory over Hammarby IF in their fourth UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage match, played on November 21st at the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm. The game, officiated by Italy’s Silvia Gasperotti, was a thrilling encounter featuring a comeback from the English side.
Hammarby took the lead against the run of play in the 48th minute through E. Wangerheim, assisted by J. Blakstad. However, Manchester City responded strongly. K. Shaw scored a brace, first in the 31st minute (assisted by Y. Hasegawa) and then again in the 52nd minute (assisted by J. Park), securing the win for the visitors. Shaw received a yellow card after her first goal. Manchester City dominated possession (67%) and had more shots on target (4) than Hammarby (3). Despite this, the Swedish side showed their attacking threat with 10 attempts on goal. City also finished the game with a second yellow card to C. Kelly.
