Deportivo Riestra suffered a heartbreaking last-minute defeat against Gimnasia L.P. in a match played at the Estadio Juan Carmelo Zerillo in La Plata. The encounter, corresponding to matchday 9 of the 2025 Liga Profesional Argentina’s First Phase, ended 2-1 in favor of the home team.
Despite Gimnasia’s overwhelming possession (75%), Deportivo Riestra took an early lead with a goal from A. Alonso in the 2nd minute, assisted by N. Sansotre. However, Gimnasia’s dominance was evident in their shot count (16 to 4) and corner kicks (7 to 2). The match was interrupted by numerous fouls, 12 from Gimnasia and 16 from Riestra, resulting in yellow cards for both teams: three for Deportivo Riestra (Benegas, Caro, and Bracamonte) and two for Gimnasia (Castro and Di Biasi).
The final minutes decided the match dramatically. J. Herrera missed a penalty for Riestra in the 89th minute. Immediately afterward, in the 90th minute, Murillo Yaison scored an own goal to give Gimnasia L.P. the victory. The final result leaves Gimnasia with three points and Riestra with a narrow defeat despite their early goal.
