KV Mechelen Stuns Genk at Cegeka Arena
Genk, Belgium – In a hard-fought match at the Cegeka Arena, KV Mechelen secured a significant victory against Genk in the 15th round of the Jupiler Pro League. Despite Genk’s territorial dominance, holding 67% of the possession and generating 19 shots, KV Mechelen capitalized on their opportunities and defended stoutly.
The match started with intensity, reflected in an early yellow card for M. Konate of KV Mechelen in the first minute. However, the away side managed to break the deadlock with a goal from J. Marsa in the 35th minute, assisted by B. Raman. The first half continued with a frantic pace, adding another caution for F. Hammar of KV Mechelen.
In the second half, Genk intensified their attack, but KV Mechelen’s defense remained firm. Referee Bram Van Driessche showed two more yellow cards to KV Mechelen, to N. Miras in the 64th minute and to L. Lauberbach in the 89th minute, as well as another to G. Diouf in the 90th minute. Although Genk generated six shots on target, KV Mechelen held on to secure the victory. The home side received no yellow cards. Despite Genk’s high possession and numerous shots, KV Mechelen’s effectiveness was key to securing the three points in a match where fouls were a constant.
