Gamba Osaka defeated Avispa Fukuoka 2-1 in a thrilling match at the Panasonic Stadium Suita, Suita, Japan, as part of the second round of the 2025 J1 League regular season. Shun Kurata was the star for Gamba Osaka, scoring two goals; the first at the 22nd minute assisted by I. Jebali and the second at the 58th minute. Avispa Fukuoka dominated possession (55%) and created more scoring chances (17 shots, 5 on target), but only managed to score one goal, courtesy of T. Miki in the 87th minute. Despite their superiority in possession and shots, their lack of finishing cost them the game. Both teams ended with two yellow cards each.
