FSV Mainz 05 Shines at Home Against Rosenborg in the UEFA Europa Conference League
Mainz, Germany – FSV Mainz 05 delivered a commanding performance at the MEWA ARENA, overcoming Rosenborg with a score of 4-1 in the first leg of the UEFA Europa Conference League playoff round. Despite a slightly favorable possession for Mainz (52%), the German team demonstrated greater effectiveness in front of goal.
The match began with a goal from S. Bell in the 28th minute, giving Mainz the lead. However, Rosenborg responded quickly with a goal from D. Islamovic in the 33rd minute, leveling the score. Before halftime, Mainz showcased their offensive prowess with two almost consecutive goals from Lee Jae-Sung in the 43rd minute and N. Weiper in the 44th minute, putting the score at 3-1.
In the second half, Mainz continued to dominate the game, and N. Amiri scored a goal in the 58th minute, extending the lead to 4-1. Despite Rosenborg’s attempts to react, Mainz’s defense remained solid. The match had an intense pace, with several fouls and one yellow card for each team (S. Vaananen from Rosenborg and P. Nebel from Mainz). Mainz generated a higher number of shots (22 versus 5) and corners (9 versus 2), reflecting their dominance in the game. The return match will be played in Trondheim in a week.
