Flamengo Defeats Racing in Possession-Dominated Match
Rio de Janeiro – In a match held at the emblematic Estádio do Maracanã, Flamengo defeated Racing Club in the CONMEBOL Libertadores semi-final. The Brazilian team largely dominated possession with 72%, subjecting Racing to constant pressure.
Although the dominance was overwhelming, the winning goal didn’t arrive until the 88th minute, when J. Carrascal scored, unleashing euphoria among the local fans. Previously, a goal by Samuel Lino had been disallowed for offside after VAR review in the 82nd minute.
Flamengo generated a total of 21 shots, of which 7 were on target and 6 went wide. They also earned 10 corner kicks. Racing, on the other hand, was limited to just 4 shots, with only one on target. The intensity of the game was reflected in the 18 fouls committed by Racing, which resulted in two yellow cards, while Flamengo committed 5 fouls and received one warning.
