Flamengo Crushes LDU de Quito at the Maracanã
Flamengo secured a convincing 2-0 victory over LDU de Quito in a CONMEBOL Libertadores group stage match played at the Estádio Jornalista Mário Filho in Rio de Janeiro on May 16th, 2025. Flamengo’s dominance was clear throughout the match, evident in their possession (62%) and superior shots on target (5-0).
Goals came in both halves. Leo Ortiz opened the scoring in the 10th minute, assisted by Luiz Araujo. Luiz Araujo extended the lead in the 54th minute with an unassisted goal.
Despite the comfortable win, Flamengo picked up one late yellow card, while LDU de Quito received four yellow cards throughout the game. LDU attempted to attack, but their low possession (38%) and lack of accuracy in shots (none on target) prevented them from threatening the Flamengo goal. The referee was Andrés Rojas from Colombia. The victory solidifies Flamengo’s position in the fight for the top spot in their group.
