Controversial Draw in Araraquara Sees Heated Match Between Ferroviária and Athletic Club
Araraquara, São Paulo – A tense and emotional match ended in a draw between Ferroviária and Athletic Club at the Estádio Doutor Adhemar de Barros, in matchday 17 of the Brazilian Serie B. The match, overseen by referee Anderson Ribeiro Goncalves, saw Ferroviária take an early lead thanks to a goal from Thayllon in the 10th minute, assisted by Juninho.
However, discipline became a major issue for the home team. A series of yellow cards for Ze Mario (leading to a red card for a second booking just before halftime), Carlao and Ricardinho, culminating in multiple expulsions that left the team numerically disadvantaged. Marcelo Ajul received the Athletic Club’s only yellow card in the 43rd minute.
Athletic Club capitalized on the situation and equalized just before halftime with a penalty converted by R. Tavares. In the second half, David Braga made it 2-1 for Athletic Club with a goal in the 58th minute, assisted by Douglas Pele.
The end of the match was chaotic, with multiple red cards shown to Ferroviária players (Carlao, Ricardinho and Wesley Pomba) by the referee. Statistics reflect a dominance in possession for Athletic Club (60%) compared to Ferroviária’s 40%. Ferroviária had 9 shots (5 on target and 1 off target), while Athletic Club had 7 shots (2 on target and 3 off target). Both teams conceded a similar number of corners.
