Qarabag Stages Comeback in Budapest, Secures Crucial Advantage in Champions League Playoffs
Budapest, Hungary – Qarabag FK achieved a significant away victory at the Groupama Aréna against Ferencvarosi TC, in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League playoffs. The match, played on August 19th, concluded with a score favoring the Azerbaijani team.
Ferencvarosi TC started the match strongly and took the lead in the 29th minute thanks to a goal by B. Varga, assisted by C. Makreckis. The first half ended with the home team holding a narrow advantage.

The match got heated, with a yellow card for Matheus Silva of Qarabag in the 69th minute. Finally, M. Qurbanly sealed the victory for Qarabag in the 85th minute, again assisted by Kady Borges. The final minutes saw tension, reflected in yellow cards for G. Szalai and A. Pesic of Ferencvarosi TC.
Qarabag dominated ball possession with 57% compared to Ferencvarosi TC’s 43%. Despite having less possession, the Hungarian team had 12 shots (4 on target), while Qarabag had 11 shots (4 on target). The return leg will be crucial in determining who advances to the Champions League group stage.
