FC Winterthur thrashed FC St. Gallen 4-0 in a thrilling match played at the Stadion Schützenwiese in Winterthur. The home side dominated the encounter with a strong performance, despite having less possession (42%).
FC Winterthur opened the scoring early with a goal from C. Gomis in the 4th minute, assisted by R. Schneider. L. Zuffi then scored a penalty in the 35th minute, extending the lead. Before halftime, B. Stillhart made it 3-0 in the 40th minute, assisted by F. Frei. In the second half, N. Burkart sealed the victory with a goal in the 78th minute, assisted by R. Schneider.
FC St. Gallen, despite having more possession (58%) and more shots (19 to 14), failed to trouble the opposition goal with the same effectiveness. A. Diaby and K. Faber received yellow cards. FC Winterthur received one yellow card, to L. Luthi. The match, corresponding to round 26 of the 2024 Swiss Super League, was officiated by Swiss referee Stefan Horisberger.
