FC St. Gallen defeated Grasshoppers 3-1 in a thrilling match at the kybunpark in St. Gallen on March 8th, 2025. The game, part of round 27 of the Swiss Super League, was marked by the home team’s superior possession and goal-scoring opportunities, and by the visitors’ indiscipline.
St. Gallen opened the scoring in the 16th minute with a goal from W. Geubbels, assisted by H. Vandermersch. However, Grasshoppers reacted quickly. In the 22nd minute, A. Abrashi received a red card, leaving his team a man down. Despite their numerical disadvantage, Grasshoppers managed to equalize in the 35th minute with a penalty converted by S. Kittel. The incident led to yellow cards for Irankunda of Grasshoppers and Vallci of St. Gallen. Before halftime, A. Bojang of Grasshoppers also received a yellow card.
In the second half, St. Gallen regained the initiative. Geubbels scored his second goal from a penalty in the 58th minute. C. Grasshoppers accumulated yellow cards throughout the second half, with Decarli, Hammel, Seko, and Persson all cautioned. St. Gallen also received two more yellow cards in the second half, for Vandermersch and Noah Yannick. J. Nsame missed a penalty for St. Gallen in the closing stages.
