Vallci scored the only goal of the game in the 38th minute, assisted by M. Cisse. The match was characterized by a number of cards: D. Schmid and L. Avdullahu received yellow cards for Basel, while M. Stevanovic and J. Quintilla were booked for St. Gallen. Furthermore, B. Traore of Basel received a red card in the 74th minute. Despite having more possession (59%) and shots (13 to 13), Basel couldn’t overcome St. Gallen’s strong defense. A goal disallowed for a foul by A. Kade in the 72nd minute added to the drama. Basel eventually scored a goal in the 85th minute through A. Kade, but it was too late to prevent the defeat.
