Sion Edges Out Zurich in Thrilling Encounter at Stade de Tourbillon
FC Sion defeated FC Zurich 2-1 in a thrilling match at the Stade de Tourbillon in Sion on February 15th, 2025, in the 24th round of the Swiss Super League. Despite having less possession (31% compared to Zurich’s 69%), Sion proved more clinical in front of goal.
M. Bouriga opened the scoring for the home side in the 18th minute, assisted by B. Kololli. J. Perea equalized for Zurich in the 21st minute, thanks to a pass from S. Zuber. However, A. Miranchuk put Sion back in the lead before halftime in the 39th minute.
The match was marked by tension, with two yellow cards for each team. B. Kololli and G. Diouf received yellow cards for Sion, while D. Reverson and M. Chouiar were cautioned for Zurich.
Although Zurich created more scoring opportunities (11 shots to Sion’s 5), their possession advantage didn’t translate into goals, highlighting Sion’s effectiveness in front of goal.
