Schalke 04 suffered a late comeback defeat against Hannover 96 at the VELTINS-Arena in Gelsenkirchen. Despite taking the lead through a goal from C. Antwi-Adjei in the 27th minute, assisted by M. Aydin, Schalke were unable to hold on to their advantage. The match was punctuated by a number of yellow cards, two for Schalke (A. Gantenbein and M. Kaminski) and three for Hannover (F. Kunze, T. Momuluh and R. Matondo). Hannover, despite having less possession (44%), overturned the scoreline in the closing stages, scoring two quick goals. J. Rochelt in the 87th minute and H. Nielsen in the 88th minute sealed the victory for Hannover 96, who managed 13 shots on goal (4 on target) compared to Schalke’s 9 (3 on target). Schalke dominated possession with 56%, but it wasn’t enough to prevent a 2-1 loss.
