FC Porto Secures Narrow Victory in Tense Portuguese Clássico
Porto, Portugal – In a match brimming with tension and emotion, FC Porto edged out Benfica at the Estádio do Dragão in the quarter-finals of the Taça de Portugal. The solitary goal of the game arrived early on, in the 15th minute, courtesy of J. Bednarek, who capitalized on an excellent assist from G. Veiga to put the home side ahead.
Despite enjoying greater ball possession (54%), Benfica failed to convert their chances, with only 3 of their 13 shots finding the target, whilst Porto, with less possession (46%), were more effective, with 5 of their 11 shots testing the goalkeeper. The match was characterized by a physical game, reflected in the numerous yellow cards issued by referee Fabio Jose Costa Verissimo. Benfica accumulated five cautions, whilst Porto also received five. The game was particularly heated at the end of the first half, with multiple cards shown just before the break. Porto advances to the semi-finals after this hard-fought but important triumph.
