Late Bertone Goal Secures Draw for Thun Against Lugano
Lugano, Switzerland – A thrilling and eventful match unfolded at the Stadio di Cornaredo, as FC Lugano and FC Thun drew in their Super League opening fixture. Lugano, enjoying 54% possession, controlled the first half and took the lead in the 16th minute with a goal from O. Doumbia, assisted by A. Grgic.
However, Thun remained resilient and persistently sought the opposing goal, albeit with initial inaccuracy. The second half saw Thun awarded a penalty, converted by L. Bertone in the 62nd minute, leveling the score. The intensity of the game resulted in several bookings, two for Lugano (A. El Wafi and Z. Brault-Guillard) and one for Thun (N. Steffen).
Just as it seemed Lugano would clinch the victory, L. Bertone struck again in the 85th minute to score his second goal and secure the final draw. Despite Lugano’s higher efficiency in shots on target (6 out of 8), Thun generated a greater number of opportunities (21 shots in total), although with less accuracy. The match, refereed by Lukas Fahndrich, left a bittersweet taste for both teams in their league debut.
