Melgar Secures Victory in Thrilling Match in Arequipa
Arequipa witnessed a vibrant football match where FBC Melgar secured a victory against Ayacucho FC at the Estadio de la Universidad Nacional San Agustín. The match, corresponding to the sixth round of the Clausura of the Peruvian Primera División, was marked by intensity and constant contention in the midfield.
The start of the match was controversial, with a goal disallowed for Ayacucho FC in the first minute due to offside after VAR review. However, FBC Melgar responded quickly, opening the scoring in the 18th minute thanks to a goal by J. Vidales, assisted by N. Quagliata. The first half continued with territorial dominance from the home team, although Ayacucho FC remained firm in defense.
The second half brought more excitement. Despite having less possession of the ball (37% compared to Melgar’s 63%), Ayacucho FC managed to equalize in the 63rd minute thanks to a goal by F. Melgar, on the other hand, had a greater offensive presence with 19 shots, although only 4 were on target. In the end, FBC Melgar took all three points in a match that kept the fans on the edge of their seats until the last minute.
