Sporting Gijón Edges Out Eldense in Thrilling Match
Sporting Gijón secured a victory in a thrilling encounter against Eldense at the Estadio Municipal Nuevo Pepico Amat in Elda, winning 2-1. The match, part of the 35th round of Spain’s Segunda División, was a closely fought contest.
Despite Eldense’s dominance in possession (64%), Sporting Gijón proved more clinical in attack. C. Gelabert Pina opened the scoring in the 37th minute, assisted by J. Dubasin. J. Dubasin doubled the lead for the visitors in the 64th minute from the penalty spot. Eldense pulled one back in the 87th minute through J. Ortuno.
Although Eldense had more possession and shots (15 to 15), they lacked accuracy (4 on target, 6 off target). The game also saw a flurry of yellow cards, three for Eldense and one for Sporting Gijón. Referee Álvaro Moreno Aragón, from Spain, had a busy afternoon in a match that Sporting controlled despite persistent pressure from the home side.
