Macará Shocks El Nacional in Quito with Late Victory
Quito – In a match held at the Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa, Macará defeated El Nacional with a score of 2 to 0, in a game corresponding to round 28 of Liga Pro. The Ambato team, although having less ball possession (44% compared to El Nacional’s 56%), proved to be more effective in front of the goal.
The first half of the match was tactical and contested, with a yellow card for M. Ayala of Macará in the 25th minute. However, just before halftime, in the 40th minute, M. Juambeltz opened the scoring for Macará with a goal after an assist from M. Viera.
The second half saw El Nacional seeking the equalizer with insistence, generating 10 shots, although only 3 of them found the target. Macará, for its part, remained firm in defense and looked to counterattack. The intensity of the match was reflected in another yellow card for J. Mohor of Macará in the 80th minute. In the final minutes of the game, when it seemed that the match would end with a minimal advantage, F. Paz sealed the match with a goal in the 90th minute, without assistance. Macará managed to capitalize on their opportunities and take a valuable victory from the capital. The referee Oswaldo Contreras (Ecuador) officiated the match.
